Chennai: The makers of Derby Jeans have been setting aside Rs 100 from every order they get through Derby tailor shop which was launched recently in Anna Nagar. The money will be used to help family of cancer patients including education of their children.

In the last 28 days, the company has received 1,400 handcrafted jeans orders and was able to set aside Rs 1.4 lakh towards cancer support.

“There are a lot of support systems including NGOs and healthcare centres that focus on funding treatment for cancer patients. But the whole idea for this initiative is to cover other expenses of survivors and victims,” said Vijay Kapoor, founder of Derby Jeans. “The situation is worse if the breadwinner is the patient, and it takes a toll on the entire family.”

The corpus will be distributed among the cancer patients, which the company will identify. “I believe in the power of social media to identify people with cancer. After collecting initial amount of Rs 5 lakh, we’ll ask our followers on Instagram and Facebook to identify the beneficiaries,” he added.
