In 22nd arrest, TNCSC chief engineer held for rape of minor

SBR Kannan is the chief construction engineer working in the head office in Kilpauk, and is responsible for the construction of buildings for the corporation. According to officials, when one Karthik approached him seeking job as a temporary driver, the official asked him to arrange a minor girl in return. 

“Karthik knows Maheshwari, a broker who has already been arrested, and shared her number. She sent the 13-year-old girl to his house in T Nagar,” said the police.

Officials picked up Karthik from Sriperumpudur for interrogation, and arrested Kannan based on his inputs. Kannan was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday. Karthik was not arrested, as he only shared Maheshwari’s contact number, said the police.

Kannan is native of Madurai where his wife is based, while he has been staying in a rented house in T Nagar.

The girl was pushed into flesh trade when she came to her relative’s house in Vyasarpadi, and was sexually exploited by many persons for about two months before her mother rescued the child.
