According to a CMDA source, the new system would be integrated with the existing CCTV cameras in the premises. “The facial recognition cameras will be used to track the movement of criminals, suspects and wanted persons to make the bus stand more secured,” the source said.

As per a CMDA document, the facial recognition system would capture faces from live CCTV feed and generate alerts if blacklisted persons are found. The facial recognition system would have a provision to take multiple samples of one face. It can be recognised even if there are glasses, scarves, masks, beard or moustache.

“The new system will have the ability to handle initial real-time watch list of 10,000 faces and 50 camera feeds simultaneously and generate alerts. The real-time watch list will be scaled to 1 million faces. The system will match faces from recorded media, group photos and stored videos,” the document said.

The planning authority that built and maintain the bus terminus would install face recognition cameras along at 18 locations inside the CMBT with the supporting equipment at a cost of around Rs 64 lakh.

The facial recognition system in the terminus will alert security staff when someone is spotted in an area where they are not permitted. “We are also trying to launch mobile phone application so that the security persons or police can capture the picture of persons and send to the server to search or browse captured face and get matching result from the backend server,” the source said.
