“Due to the circulation of the atmospheric overlay, showers and thundershowers are expected in the coastal districts of south Tamil Nadu on Monday. Moderate rainfall in the southern inner districts and dry weather in the northern inner districts are expected,” said N Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning, Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.

With the return of the Easterlies, broad upper air circulation is expected to push the circulation towards Sri Lanka and coastal Tamil Nadu. Districts such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore and Karaikal will see rainfall for 72 hours, with thunderstorms. In Chennai, partly cloudy skies will be seen for the next 48 hours, with temperatures between 30 and 23 degrees C.

“Light to moderate rains are expected to hit the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu from Monday onwards, under the influence of the easterlies enhanced by broad upper air circulation. Rains will begin from late Sunday, with warmer weathers in the morning,” said weather blogger Srikanth K, who runs the page Chennai Rains. He added that Puducherry and Cuddalore will receive the main brunt of the rains.
