10-year-old run over by sewage tanker in Sholinganallur

A 10-year-old riding a bicycle in front of his house in Sholinganallur was run over by a sewage tanker on Wednesday.

Abhishek, a Class 5 student of a government school, was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead.

Later, Guindy traffic investigation police sent his body to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem examination and arrested the driver of the tanker Prabakaran (26). Further investigation is under way.

In a similar incident, a 38-year-old woman died after being run over by a truck in Koyambedu wholesale market complex on Wednesday evening. The driver was reversing the vehicle when the woman came under the wheels.

She has been identified as Bakiyam, a resident of Villupuram, and used to sell vegetables.

The incident occurred when Bakiyam was collecting vegetables that had fallen of trucks and did not see the vehicle reversing. She died on the spot.

The Koyambedu traffic investigation police have registered a case and are looking for the truck driver who fled the spot.
