26 kids begging in city rescued over a week, rehabilitated

The Juvenile Aid Police Units (JAPU) of Crime Against Women Children (CAWC) have rescued 26 children who were pushed into begging either by parents or relatives in the last one week and rehabilitated them.

On December 17, as many as 15 children were rescued by teams comprising all-women police personnel, Childline staff, both units of JAPU and volunteers from the International Justice Mission (IJM) NGO.

The rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee at Kelly’s and sent to childcare institutions for rehabilitation.

Similarly, JAPU units on Tuesday rescued seven children in areas such as Nungambakkam, Parry’s Corner, Thousand Lights and Porur, while four children were rescued on Wednesday.

Apart from them, children who ran away from their houses due to various reasons are also being traced and reunited with parents.

In the last one week, six missing children from areas like Kodungaiyur, Rajamangalam, Otteri, Ice House, Flower Bazaar and Tiruvottiyur were traced and rescued from different parts of the city and handed over to the respective police stations.
