One of their victims, Ganesh Sankar (27) of Velachery, who works at a private firm in Bengaluru, was trying to get a loan for his wedding in February when he got a call from a person identifying as an ‘executive’ of ‘Reliance Nippon Insurance’.

Ganesh Sankar was promised immediate sanction of Rs 4 lakh if he can insure it by paying 10 per cent of the loan, Rs 40,000. Believing it, he paid Rs 40,000 through Google Pay, but he was unable to reach them over phone after that.

Based on his complaint, Adyar cyber cell began investigation and found out that a fake call centre was being run in the office of Berakhah Business Solutions in Santhoshapuram for about two years.

“Its owner Premkumar managed to get details of people in need of loans from the Internet and approached them through the executives of the call centre managed by his wife Benissa Saro (23),” said the police.

Benissa and her driver Vignesh were arrested, and seven cordless phones, mobile phones, a car and some documents were seized from them. While they were remanded in judicial custody, a hunt has been launched for her husband and the main accused, Premkumar.
