Cattle block traffic, owner pays Rs 5k fine

Tension prevailed on Karuneegar Road near Adambakkam on Thursday due to a standoff between a Corporation Health Inspector and the owner of stray cattle after the official impounded two bulls for disturbing traffic here.

After police intervention, the Alandur Health Inspector, Revathi, collected a fine of Rs 5,000 from the cattle owner as it was a recurring occurrence in the neighbourhood. Alandur zonal officials received a complaint that cattle are blocking the roads during peak hours on Karuneegar Road.
The road, which is a link to Adambakkam, St Thomas Mount and Alandur, the traffic usually goes out of control during peak hours. On Thursday, the Health Inspector and other zonal officials inspected the road and found two heads of cattle blocking the traffic flow. They managed to restrain them on to a lamp post on the roadside. A few minutes later, the owner, Ravi, and his son came to the spot and began to argue with the health inspector. They also threatened to forcefully take the cattle. Soon Revathi filed a complaint at the Adambakkam police station. A police team arrived at the spot and took the cattle to the station. After inquiry, the police asked Ravi to pay the fine and later the animals were released.
