Superstar discusses party formation steps with RMM members

After spending some time with his brother at Bengaluru, actor Rajinikanth held discussions on core issues relating to his party with senior office-bearers of Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) in the city on Wednesday.

The meeting assumes significance as the actor cancelled his Hyderabad trip for ‘Annaatthe’ movie shooting and came to Chennai to hold a meeting with party coordinator Arjuna Murthy and Tamilaruvi Manian, who have been entrusted the task of monitoring the formation of the party.

With regard to the meeting, a senior RMM cadre said, “Our leader has discussed several important things including the ongoing activities to form the party.”

Stating that Rajini also talked about the venue for floating party, he said, “it was also discussed whether the meeting could be conducted either in Madurai or Tiruchy.”

According to RMM cadre, Rajini also made it clear that posters with regard to party activities should not carry either Arjuna Murthy’s photo or Tamilaruvi Manian’s picture. “He (Rajini) also instructed the cadre to avoid coming to his residence on his birthday, which falls on December 12,” he said adding “police protection was also sought near our leader’s residence to control the crowd.” RMM sources further said it was also discussed with regard to the formation of a high-level committee, comprising senior party members to look into main activities after the launch of the party besides preparing a manifesto. In addition, setting up the party’s head office was also on the agenda of the meeting.

Soon after the meeting, more than 10 police personnel were deployed outside Rajini’s residence.

Only AIADMK can give MGR rule, Jayakumar’s veiled reply to Rajini

Senior AIADMK leader and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on Wednesday in a veiled attack took a dig at actor Rajinikanth stating that those claiming the legacy of AIADMK founder MGR cannot succeed in politics. Many people in the past have claimed for the legacy of MGR, but only AIADMK has the sole right to claim his legacy. Rajini cannot succeed by promising MGR rule. AIADMK is the brainchild of MGR and only AIADMK can assure the rule of MGR, Jayakumar said. He also hinted that the upcoming assembly polls will be fought only between the archival DMK and ruling AIADMK. To a query on whether Rajini will dent the prospects of AIADMK, Jayakumar said I am not an astrologer or a numerologist to predict things. I am a politician will react to Rajinikanth only when he floats a political party. Meanwhile the AIADMK joint coordinator KP Munusamy while addressing party workers in Thiruvallur had asked the cadre to work hard so that the party can repeat the victory irrespective of Rajinikanth’s political debut.
