Even as the city's rains help in resolving the water crisis faced by the residents during summer, it has always been a matter of concern that residents of low lying areas are clearly left islanded.

After a brief respite from rains, parts of the city saw steady rains from midnight. With the parts of the city just reviving from the Nivar effect, continuous rains on Friday has left many localities flooded with water. Areas around Anna Nagar, T.Nagar, Ekkattuthangal, Velachery, Egmore and Royapettah recorded heavy rainfall since midnight.

With no proper desilting, residents of Adambakkam said that due to the heavy rains, the sewage water has mixed with the rainwater and is stagnant on the road.

Residents of Periyar Nagar 2nd Street and 6th Street of Adambakkam zone, have raised the complaint of improper sanitation and clogged sewage.

The residents also said that the pungent smell and the presence of venomous creatures in the stagnant water pose a serious threat to the passers-by.
