Central team to reach city today for inspection

An inter-ministerial team of officials from the Centre is visiting the State on Saturday to undertake an assessment of damages caused by Cyclone Nivar.

The eight-member team is led by Ashutosh Agnihotri, Joint Secretary, Home Ministry. The team consists of officials from various Ministries, including Agriculture, Finance, Rural Development, Water Resources, Road, Power and Fisheries.

After reaching Chennai, the team will split into two – one will be coordinated by PWD Secretary K Manivasan and the other by Agriculture Secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi. The teams will be in Tamil Nadu for four days, during which they will visit various cyclone affected areas and hold meetings with State government officials.

On Saturday, both the teams will attend a meeting that will be chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami during which Chief Secretary K Shanmugam will brief them about the damages caused by the cyclone. The team will then attend meetings with officials. From Sunday, they will visit various cyclone affected areas.

The first team will visit areas in south Chennai, Chengalpattu, Puducherry and Cuddalore on Sunday and Monday. The second team will visit cyclone affected areas in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore and Tirupattur districts.

On Tuesday, both the teams will return to Chennai and hold another meeting with officials before returning to Delhi.
