Cops warned to stay away from online gambling

After learning that online gambling was widely prevalent among constables attached to the Armed Reserve Police Force, the State Police Headquarters has issued a circular warning police personnel to stay away from gambling or face a jail term up to six months. Senior officers have been asked to advise their subordinates during roll call and parades against indulging in gambling. All units are also expected to report back to the headquarters with details on measures taken to bring awareness against online gambling among police personnel by December 3.

Admitting that many in the Police Department, particularly those in AR, are indulging in online gambling, the circular noted that such games were designed in a way that only those playing the games made money. “It is an illusion. Lots of people and their families are already suffering due to online gambling and all police personnel should be advised not to indulge in the game,” the circular stated.

The Tamil Nadu Governor had issued an ordinance banning online gambling on November 21 after a series of complaints and suicides over online gambling across the State.
