2 schoolchildren drown in sea off Tiruvottiyur
Two schoolchildren who went swimming in sea off Tiruvottiyur after celebrating their friend’s birthday were sucked in by a giant wave on Tuesday. While the body of one of the boys, Joseph (10), washed ashore, the other boy remained untraced till Wednesday evening.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon when Joseph and another boy Tarun (11) went to give cake to a relative in Ezhu Kudisai after celebrating their friend’s birthday.
While returning home, the two ran into the beach to swim despite fishermen’s warning that the sea was rough. Suddenly, a giant wave sucked in the duo and a few minutes later, their bodies were found floating.
On information, Tiruvottiyur police rushed to the spot and entered the sea from Kasimedu Fishing Harbour since the sea was rough in Tiruvottiyur. However, they could only recover Joseph’s body, while Tarun went missing. Tiruvottiyur police have registered a case and the search is on for Tarun.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man who was bathing in Arani river near Gummidipoondi went missing after he got entangled in a swirl near the dam on Wednesday He was identified as Subash of Sanar Kandigai near Periyapalayam. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon when he along with friends visit the dam in AN Kuppam.
