The valuables belong to Parthasarathy (65) of 15th avenue in Ashok Nagar, who had shifted to a relative’s house in Besant Nagar on November 24 and returned on Thursday. He was shocked to find that the house door was broken and jewels and cash stolen. After he lodged a complaint, the Kumaran Nagar police began inquiry and found that few from the neighbourhood had bought an unusually large quantity of liquor and gifted them to their friends. This led to suspicion, and within three hours of the complaint, the police team nabbed the three. The stolen valuables – 30 sovereigns of gold, silver articles, wristwatches and Rs 40,000 – were seized from the suspects, identified as Vignesh, Rajesh and Prakash.

“The accused kept a watch on the senior citizen and broke the house door with a crowbar,” said an official.
