The DVAC has named Ravindra Prakash, former DSP and former inspector Jayaprada of district crime branch, Ramanathapuram along with seven others in connection with the case. While the police officers were booked for receiving bribe, the others were booked for giving the bribe.

The case was registered based on a complaint from Govindarajan, treasurer of VOC Matriculation School Education Society.

He was part of office-bearers who were elected in January last year. It is alleged that the rival group allegedly tried to sabotage the new committee by filing fake complaints and creating forged documents and dragged the case to the district crime branch, where a case was registered by the DSP against the elected office-bearers allegedly after receiving a bribe of Rs 10 lakh.

One of the accused had confessed, in a recorded video statement, that he along with six others had mobilised Rs 10 lakh to give to the DSP. Ramanathapuram DVAC registered a case under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act against nine persons, including two police officers.
