City lensman to represent India at virtual World Festival

 “I work with architects and interior designers to photograph and document their work for use in their portfolio, for publication in magazines, books, online publications, etc and for use in their competition 

entries. The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is the premier event for people in the architecture community. Winning an award at WAF or even getting shortlisted is a highly valued thing in the community, as the work there is at a very high level. It usually happens in different parts of the world every year, but this year they have started WAFVirtual, with presentations and talks happening online. I am connected to WAF as I was shortlisted for the Architectural Photography Awards (APA) in 2018. My photo was one of 20 photos shortlisted from close to 2,000 architectural images from around the world. The APA collaborated with WAF to have their event as a part of WAF, and all the shortlisted images were displayed at WAF 2018 in Amsterdam. I attended the event and it was a great experience to meet a variety of people and see how things functioned on an international stage. The organisers of the APA referred me to the WAF organisers as a potential speaker, and then I was invited to make a 10-minute presentation. My video is a technical presentation where I will be speaking about one of the important stages of my planning process before an architecture shoot. My presenting slot is on December 1,” he tells DT Next.

 Architectural photography is a niche and many people use architecture photography and interiors photography interchangeably. 

“This is not always true. Architecture photography refers to the photography of the exteriors of the building and its details and also interior detailing built into the structure of the building. The focus here is not only on the overall structure of the building but also the functionality of the various small and large elements and materials used. Interiors photography is purely the photography of the insides of the building with a focus on styling, design, the mood of the space, etc,” explains the photographer.

 While he had always been interested in photography from a young age, he was also passionate about design and architecture. “I used to (and still do) read as much as possible about anything I’m interested in.

 So by the time I started my business and started meeting architects, I could understand what they were saying, without them needing to completely simplify their concepts. It comes naturally to me to keep 

learning more by reading, speaking to architects and designers and listening to a lot of podcasts, just to keep building my knowledge on a variety of subjects,” he shares.

 Sreenag also started his video and audio podcast series called Everything Comes Together which is available on YouTube. This is a longform interview series, where he speaks to people from the architecture, design and photography communities about their lives.

 “The show focuses on them as people, and how they navigated their lives from childhood, through college and their career.
