Cops to give computers to transpersons in city

As part of their initiatives for the welfare of the third gender, the Choolaimedu police are now distributing desktops, laptops, sewing machines and pushcarts to transpersons.

Joint Commissioner (East) R Sudhakar is likely to distribute 4 laptops, 10 desktops, 6 sewing machines and 4 pushcarts to transpersons were selected by NGOs, Sahodari and Thozhi.

Among those selected to get laptops are Rakshitha, a Master’s degree holder in Zoology who plans to pursue a PhD on the trans community; Olga B Aaron, who has been involved in social service for the last 20 years; Inba Ignatius, a BE graduate who has been building a retreat home for young transpersons that would also serve as a home for the aged transwomen; and TA Vinithradevi, an Economics graduate, working as a project manager at Snegithi NGO.

“A laptop would be really help them coordinate their work in a better way,” said Sudha Kalaimamani, a social activist working with police for the welfare of transpersons.

Choolaimedu inspector G Anand Babu told DT Next that many educated transpersons required support to do their good work. “Desktops are given to different NGOs working with them. Pushcarts are gifted to those who want to run eateries and sewing machines for those with training,” he added.
