Duo attacks elderly woman, relieves her of 3 sovereigns

The incident happened around 9.30 pm on Saturday when victim J Pachayammal was alone at her house on Cholambedu road. Two men who entered the house on the pretext of seeking phone charger suddenly snatched her chain and removed her earpieces and nose studs after attacking her.

While the duo fled the spot, Pachayammal was rushed to a nearby hospital and treated for injuries. Tirumullaivoyal police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the two suspects. Meanwhile, Nungambakkam police arrested a four-member gang and seized two snatched phones from them on Saturday.

The accused were identified as S Kannaiah Joseph (23) of Royapettah, P Jayakumar (26) of Nochikuppam, M Saravanan (25) of Nochikuppam and N Tamizharasan (23) of Mattankuppam.

The gang followed Abdul Rahman (21) of Triplicane on Kodambakkam High Road on two bikes on November 10 and snatched his phone. They were remanded in judicial custody.
