Heavy showers lashes the city, to continue for 24 hours: IMD

After a brief break, the city received showers since morning. The IMD has predicted that the rainfall is likely to continue for the next 24 hours.

According to the bulletin released by the IMD, heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms is likely to occur in Chennai, Tiruvalllur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu on November 12.

Accordingly, the city saw rain showers since the morning after a small break last week. The regional meteorological centre has also issued heavy rainfall warning in Chennai, especially on November 11-12.

IMD has said " Under the influence of a trough in easterly at lower levels located over Westcentral Bay of Bengal and runs from north Andhra Pradesh coast to Sri Lanka coast and its further westward movement, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning with isolated heavy falls very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during 11th-12th, November 2020. " 

Further, "A fresh easterly wave is likely to affect southeast Peninsular India during this week. Under its influence: Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning with isolated heavy falls is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during 14th-15th and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on 15th, November 2020."

Parts of the city like Chepak, Kodambakkam, Chindadhiripet, T.Nagar, Saidhapet, Chromepet and Guindy saw heavy showers. Meanwhile, city outskirt areas like Alandur, Chromepet, Tambaram and Pallavaram continue to see rains.
