According to CMRL sources, Hindustan Construction Company Ltd-KEC International Joint Venture, Larsen and Toubro Ltd and NCC Ltd have submitted their bids when the bids were opened on Tuesday.

As part of the works, the bidder has to construct elevated metro stations at Chennai Bypass crossing, Ramachandra Hospital, Iyyapanthangal bus depot, Katupakkam, Kumanan Chavadi, Karayan Chavadi, Mullai Thottam, Poonamallee bus terminus and Ponamallee bypass, apart from the associated elevated line and a depot-line to a train maintenance depot at Poonamallee.

This is the second elevated package of 26.09 km corridor-4 connecting Light House and Poonamallee Bypass where bids have been opened. CMRL had opened bids for the construction of the 7.955 km elevated section of the corridor-4 from Power House to Porur junction on Arcot Road and construction of nine elevated stations. Sources said the same three companies had applied for that stretch too.

After the opening of the bids, CMRL would now send for technical evaluation which would take a couple of months before awarding of the contract. “Once the contract is awarded, the companies are expected to complete their works in three years’ time,” sources added.

Meanwhile, the CMRL has also invited bids for the construction of 29 underground stations in the corridor-3 from Madhavaram to Taramani stretch under five packages to ensure timely completion of the work. Officials said that the tenders were invited under five packages – Madhavaram to Perambur, Aynavaram to Kellys, KMC to Royapettah, Radhakrishnan Salai to Adyar Junction and Adyar Depot to Taramani link road. “CMRL is also scrutinising the bids received for construction of nine-km tunnels from Venugopal Nagar to Kellys Station and 12-km tunnels from Kellys Station to Taramani Road junction in the corridor-3,” official added.

CMRL would be expanding its network in phase-2 with the construction of 118.9 km lines comprising three corridors – Madhavaram to Sholinganallur, Madhavaram to Sipcot and Light House to Poonamallee.
