The 10-bed special ward has been specially opened to handle burns during Deepavali festivities. The ward will start functioning from Wednesday and staff members have been arranged on duty.

“We have all kinds of medications and equipment support to handle emergency cases. Every year, we receive more than 100 such cases of various degrees of burns from Chennai and neighbouring districts,” said Dr P Vasanthamani, dean at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital.

The hospital authorities have also displayed safety precautions and other first-aid measures to be taken in case of burns at the hospital. Doctors said a majority of burn cases and injuries during Deepavali are among children and road traffic accidents.
