BJP chief reaches out to smaller ‘like-minded’ parties

As political parties gear up for the upcoming Assembly polls, the state BJP unit has started approaching the leaders of smaller parties to strengthen the National Democratic Alliance under the AIADMK leadership in the state. BJP leader L Murugan is reaching out to these smaller parties which have allied with the AIADMK and the DMK in the past elections.

Puthiya Needhi Katchi run by AC Shanmugham and Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi of TR Pachamuthu are now under BJP’s wish list. According to party insiders, Murugan recently met Pachamuthu, who is in alliance with the DMK now.

Both leaders discussed politics. However, the smaller parties are keeping their cards close to their chest so that they can take a conducive decision that suits them ahead of the Assembly polls, insiders said.

“The fact is that the BJP is growing in Tamil Nadu and more cadre and celebrities are joining our party confirming the growing popularity in the state. Several smaller parties are also responding positively towards the BJP,” SR Sekhar, treasurer, TN BJP told DT Next.

BJP has its political strategies for Tamil Nadu and they will be revealed only during the time of polls. “As of now we are in AIADMK alliance and but we have our political permutations and strategies. Our party leader Murugan is keeping the options open for the like-minded parties to travel with us.

This does not mean that the BJP is forming the third front. BJP is strengthening the existing alliance and this is the golden time for BJP led by a strong Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre, Sekhar noted.

However, the BJP will not reach out to parties like DMK, VCK and Left who are diagonally opposite to our principals and ideology.

Except for these parties BJP will reach out to other state parties to strengthen our alliance ahead of May 2021 Assembly polls, Sekhar noted.

Our state president is dynamic and reaching out to other leaders to strengthen the BJP-AIADMK alliance

and what is wrong in meeting political representatives of other parties who have earlier allied with the DMK, Sekhar asked.
