Earlier in the day, Tencent Games released a statement confirming that the game will be off Indian servers in compliance with the Union government order banning over 100 Chinese applications. The statement left several players deeply saddened, but some haven’t given up yet.

While the mobile game has been removed, the PC game will continue, which will help professional gamers and streamers. However, for those who played the mobile version, the game was a chance to while away the long hours of lockdown. “I got into the game a lot more during the shutdown because of all the free time. It’s a great way to relax and unwind after a long day of work. I’ve been playing ever since the game was released in 2018, and I’ve gotten good at it. It’s a shame to lose all my progress in the game,” said a 32-year-old casual gamer.

For some players, the game was a chance to find new friends and form a community. “I was always a shy guy. But when I play, I become a lot more confident. PUBG was a huge platform with a large number of players, and I got to meet so many of my current friends through the game. Across the State also, there were PUBG competitions that brought people together. This is something I’m going to miss so much,” said Ashish, a local gamer.

However, some players have not given up hope. Many hope to manipulate the server access through a VPN service, rather than move to another application, which some gamers are opting for.

“If you download a VPN app on your phone, you can get access to another server and play the game. There are already YouTube tutorials on setting up the server and using it properly. I like PUBG, and I don’t want to shift to ‘Call of Duty’. So, this is the route I’m going to take,” said a 19-year-old gamer.
