Classrooms named after model students
In a move to encourage students studying in Chennai Corporation schools, the civic body launched an initiative to name the classrooms after students, who studied in the respective schools and are doing well in their fields.
According to a Corporation statement, a classroom in the Girls Higher Secondary School on MH Road in Perambur was named after P Jayashree, who had secured highest marks among the Corporation school students in Class 12 examination conducted in March 2020. Also, a classroom in the Girls Higher Secondary School on Perambur Market Street has been named after D Vetriselvi IAS, who had studied in the school.
“Under the initiative, one of the classrooms in each schools will be named after such students,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash inaugurated Atal Tinkering Labs in three Corporation schools on TH Road, Rotler Street and Buddha Street, on Thursday.
The release saidthat the labs were inaugurated under the central government scheme. “The labs are equipped with devices like electronics, robotics, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and 3D printers. “The labs will encourage students in self learning using the equipment. Students studying in Class 6 to Class 12 will use the labs,” the release added.
The civic body is planning to set up labs at Chennai Corporation schools in Maduvankarai, Pulla Avenue and MGR Nagar. Also, one such lab would be set up at Saidapet Girls Higher Secondary Schools with the help of an NGO.
