“The state government, for providing better cancer treatment, had installed hi-tech ‘Linear Accelerators’ in 10 government hospitals in the state. The process of upgrading Adyar Cancer Institute at the cost of Rs 120 crore is on the verge of completion and state government had spent Rs 59 crore to form four cancer zones across the state,” said Chief Minister, after inaugurating a private hospital in Vadapalani.

Delivering the Fortis Hospital’s inaugural address, the CM listed out the achievements of the state government in health sector and said that due to the investments in health sector Tamil Nadu ranks first not just in the health services but also in health infrastructure.

“Along with government hospitals, private hospitals also provide quality health care in the state. Due to the quality of health care at relatively cheaper rates, people from other states come to Tamil Nadu for treatment owing to which state had turned to be the hub of medical tourism,” said the Chief Minister.

He also said that Tamil Nadu had already achieved its goals that were set for sustainable development in 2030. “Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) had reduced from 16 to 15 last year and as far as Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is concerned Tamil Nadu had reached its goal set for 2030. Tamil Nadu is also leading in institutional deliveries as 99.9 percentage of deliveries happen in hospitals,” said Palaniswami.
