A 45-year-old man from Tenkasi who sold his mini truck to ward off the evil eye was cheated of Rs 2 lakh by a godman in the city.

The victim K Rajakumaran of Meenakshipuram in Tenkasi district recently met a godman in Tenkasi and sought good health for all his family members since they often fell ill. The godman allegedly told Rajakumaran that the latter’s enemies have activated occult forces against his family and that he has to perform a remedial puja to ward off the evil eye, for which he wanted Rs 2 lakh and a pair of roosters.

Believing him, Rajakumaran sold his mini truck for Rs 5 lakh and reached Chennai on Tuesday along with his kin from Tirunelveli in a car. He was carrying Rs 2 lakh he received as an advance for the mini truck and met the godman near Government Stanley Hospital. The godman took the money and left to buy puja essentials but did not return even after hours.

Rajakumaran, realising that he has been cheated, approached Washermenpet police and lodged a complaint. A case has been registered and a hunt has been launched for the fake godman.
