The deceased Karthik alias Blacky of Mylapore, an auto driver, is said to be a friend of the main absconding suspect Ragu, also an auto driver, from Kannagi Nagar.

Police said Karthik, who often visits Ragu’s house, allegedly developed a relationship with the latter’s wife. It is said Ragu’s wife eloped with Karthik last year but returned home after two weeks.

Ragu, who was angry with Karthik since then, reportedly came to know that the illicit affair continued and decided to eliminate Karthik.

On Tuesday night, when Karthik reached Kannagi Nagar, Ragu and his friends surrounded him and hacked him to death. While they fled the spot, on information, Kannagi Nagar police rushed there and sent his body to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.

A case was registered and Ragu’s accomplices Dheena (19) and Jayaraj (19) were arrested. A hunt has been launched for Ragu and a few others.
