The arrested were identified as Baskar (21) and Muthulingam (28) of Guduvanchery and Saravanan (34) of Urapakkam. On Tuesday, the police received information that ganja is being supplied near the Chromepet bus stop. Soon, cops in civvies went there and found three men lingering around at the bus stop. On checking their two bikes, police found two kg of ganja kept concealed.
After seizing the ganja and the bikes, police arrested the trio and took them to Chromepet station. During the inquiry, they said they were working in different private firms in Chennai and after losing their jobs due to the lockdown a few months ago started selling ganja for a living. Police registered a case and are probing the source of ganja and others involved.
Two women among four held with 2.5 kg ganja
Meanwhile, Tiruvottiyur police arrested four peddlers, including two women and seized 2.5 kg ganja and an autorickshaw from them. The accused were identified as K Manikandan (27) of Sadayankuppam, his wife Divya (25), B Prabakaran (29) of Kasimedu and P Manjula (45) of Tiruvottiyur. Based on a tip-off, police secured the gang on North Chariot Street in Tiruvottiyur on Tuesday evening when they were peddling ganja from an autorickshaw. Three mobile phones and Rs 2,000 in cash were also seized from them before they were remanded in judicial custody.
