Bull rearers in city finally find footing after shutdown

According to Rajesh Ranganathan, who owns a kankrej bull in Tambaram, this was a time to bond with the animal. As many of his labourers had returned to their hometown, Rajesh was able to work in the fields with the animals for the first time in a long time.

“One of the greatest moments during the shutdown is that our bull managed to father about ten calves over the last four months. With us being cooped up at home all the time, the calves became a new source of entertainment,” said Ranganathan.

For R Prabhu, who decided to take up cattle farming in 2016 after quitting his engineering job, the shutdown has offered a moment of bonding between himself and his daughter.

“I had started cattle farming to give my daughter good quality milk. Of late, we have been spending time together tending to our animals,” he said.
