Toll on OMR to go up by 10 pc from October 1

The toll on vehicles travelling on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) would go up by around 10 per cent with effect from October 1. The revised toll would remain for two years, said an official statement.

The toll for three-wheelers will increase by a rupee – from Rs 9 to Rs 10 – for single-trip, while it would be Rs 30 for cars, up from Rs 27. The revised toll for light commercial vehicles would be Rs 49, as opposed to Rs 45 at present. Buses would have to pay Rs 78, up from Rs 71. Trucks would have to pay Rs 10 more, Rs 117 instead of the existing Rs 107. The revised toll for multi-axle vehicles would be Rs 234 – it is Rs 213 at present.

OMR is a 45-km stretch that goes up to Mamallapuram, but the toll applies to the 20-km stretch running south from Madhya Kailash junction in Adyar up to Siruseri. The Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC), a joint venture between Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation and Tidel Park Ltd, is implementing the toll road upgrading work and is expected to start on the second phase of the road project between Siruseri and Mamallapuram soon.
