A special team of Washermenpet police arrested two serial offenders who indulged in vehicle theft and snatchings in different parts of the city.

The accused K Aravindhan (24) of Ennore and Sai Krishnan (21) of Kodambakkam became friends in the prison and teamed up to steal expensive two-wheelers to sell it for Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. The duo was secured in a vehicle check near Moolakothalam on Saturday night and inquiry revealed that the bike in their possession was stolen.

It was also revealed that the duo had stolen another bike in Vadapalani and a Yamaha bike in RK Nagar. They had also snatched an expensive phone from a pedestrian. Police said the duo has cases pending in different stations.

Snatcher held after 20 days from his hideout in Tiruporur

Nearly 20 days after a bike-borne duo snatched five sovereigns from a woman in front of her husband in Neelankarai, police have secured the main accused and seized the chain. The accused G Navamani alias Natraj of Gummidipoondi was secured from a hideout in Tiruporur on Saturday and investigation revealed he has more than 10 cases including a triple murder against him. While police had already arrested a juvenile in connection with the case, police combed footage from about 100 CCTV cameras to nab Navamani.

Two youth held for snatching phone from woman in Royapettah

Royapettah police arrested two men for snatching a mobile phone from a woman. The accused Munir Batcha (22) of Royapettah and Riaz Batcha (19) of Triplicane snatched the phone from P Seetha of Triplicane on Dr Natesan Salai on Thursday. The phone was recovered and the duo remanded in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, Mylapore police too recently arrested a trio including a juvenile for snatching chain from a woman pedestrian. The juvenile was sent to observation home and the other two remanded in judicial custody.
