TN CM launches upgraded portal for TN Skill Development Corporation

Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) is the Nodal Agency for the skill development related activities in the State and it aims to converge the activities of various stakeholders including industries, industrial associations, training providers, sector skill councils, assessment agencies apart from various other State and Central Government bodies.

TNSDC was formed with a vision to transform the state into a skill hub by empowering the youth to enhance their employability and match the expectations of the Industry. Since 2013, it is functioning as a Corporation under the Labour and Employment Department.

Accordingly, the website https://www.tnskill.tn.gov.in/, of TNSDC was upgraded at a cost of Rs 2 crores, which was launched by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

With the new upgrade, it is possible for virtual registration of users, accreditations of training institutes, e-certificates, maintenance of attendance record linked with the Aadhaar number and many more, sources said.

In addition, TNSDC has signed MOU with 'The Ramco Cements Ltd.' to establish a world-class skills development centre in the Construction and Infrastructure stream and to provide free online education and training to 50,000 unemployed youths in Tamil Nadu.

Also, the website has been upgraded to contain an Unified Single Skill Registry, that includes details of other disciplines thereby providing skills development training accordingly.

Officials said another MoU was also signed with Coursera, a Californian based organisation to provide e-learning facilities for the enrolled candidates. The institute offers certification and degree courses in various arena including engineering, machine learning, mathematics, business, computer science, digital marketing, medicine, biology, social sciences and more online in collaboration with universities, colleges, companies such as Google, IBM and government agencies. Along with certification courses, Coursera also offers training courses in 80 countries around the world with the aim of developing skills.

According to a press release issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu, these MoUs will pave way for the empowerment of the unemployed youth in Tamil Nadu, by giving them the required e-training and making them eligible for employment according to the industrial vacancies.
