According to Chennai Corporation data, the city had only 9,833 active cases out of the 1,51,560 positive cases reported since the outbreak – or just six per cent – as on Thursday morning.

The data showed that 14 of the 15 zones in the city Corporation have less than 10 per cent active cases. Among the zones, there are only 116 cases in Manali, the zone with the lowest number of active cases.

Kodambakkam has 1,140 active cases, which is 7 per cent of the total positive cases in the city. Despite having only 641 active cases, Alandur has 11 per cent. As per the data, 1.38 lakh patients in the city have recovered and 3,013 patients died due to the virus.

Teynampet zone, where 402 persons died, recorded the highest number of deaths. The mortality rate there is 2.78 per cent of active cases. Despite registering 134 deaths, which is lower than most of the zones, Tiruvottiyur zone has the highest mortality rate at 2.81 per cent.

Anna Nagar had 339 deaths, while it is 321 in Kodambakkam zone. Royapuram and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, too, have registered more than 300 deaths.

Manali, Madhavaram, Alandur, Perungudi and Sholinganallur - extended zones - have recorded less than 100 deaths. The overall mortality rate in Chennai is 1.99 per cent.

The number of containment zones in the city has come down to just four. As per the civic body data, all the four containment zones are located in Madhavaram zone.
