Youth attempts to sexually assault, rob 53-yr-old man

The victim was waiting near Anna Arch around 10.30 pm when an auto driver, later identified as Karadi alias Charles (26) of Aminjikarai, offered a trip to Arumbakkam for Rs 50. However, he was taken on Poonamallee High Road and brought near TNPCB building.

After trying to sexually assault the man, Charles snatched his phone and demanded money. When the victim said he did not have cash, he was taken to an ATM and made to withdraw Rs 500 as he claimed that he only had minimum balance.

Based on his complaint, Arumbakkam police registered a case. The accused made a call from the stolen phone on September 3, which proved crucial for Arumbakkam crime inspector Franwin Dany and team to crack the case.

The inspector called the person, identified as Vinoth, and found out that he worked at a four-wheeler service firm. Posing as customers, officials made him come to a spot to pick up a car and nabbed him. Then Charles’s another friend was picked up. On Monday, the team arrested Charles from Maduravoyal and his autorickshaw was seized.
