According to a request for proposal (RFP) released by the CMDA, stakeholders include CMDA, Greater Chennai Corporation, Traffic Police, Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Metrorail and others, while the CUMTA (Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority) would coordinate the implementation of the CMP.

“The selected consultant should communicate the CMP to the stakeholders and conduct consultation through discussions, workshops and seminars. The consultant should also conduct public consultations with citizens, NGOs and the civil society,” the RFP said.

The document pointed out that the comprehensive mobility plan has been prepared in accordance with the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) guidelines to plan for safe and sustainable mobility needs of the people of Chennai over a 30-year horizon period.

According to the final CMP, more than 57 per cent of the transportation in Chennai Metropolitan area would be public transportation in 2048 if all the aspects of the CMP implemented completely on time. Also, private transportation would be reduced to less than 39 per cent in the next 30 years.
