In a memo to the chief engineers of the distribution wing, Tangedco commercial wing chief engineer said that in order to avoid delay in making payment by the applicant under ‘one-day service connection scheme’, it was instructed that the applicants for three-phase domestic and commercial connections can pay the miscellaneous charges (service connection charges) only for four kilowatt demand at the time of registering the application and avail the service connections.

The estimated charges and miscellaneous charges for the demand over and above four kilowatt, if any are due from the consumers, should be collected in the first current consumption bill, it said.

“Now it is understood that some of the field officials collect miscellaneous charges for four kilowatt even if the load applied is more than four KW in respect of group housing which involves extension work similar to one-day service connection applicable only for mere service connections, and collect the balance amount in the first bill for the demand applied over and above four KW. This is against the spirit of the instruction issued for ‘one-day service connection scheme,” the memo said.

The memo added that with the revised miscellaneous charges from October 5 last year, the lump sum charge was applicable only for the single-phase domestic category. “For single-phase commercial and three-phase domestic and commercial categories, development charges and security deposit depend upon the demand applied by the applicant. Also the development charges vary for Over Head and Under-Ground service connections,” it said.
