According to Chennai Corporation sources, the decision was taken two days ago in a meeting with the representatives of persons with disabilities associations.

As per the data, the civic body had identified 46,487 such persons in the city. Of the total persons with disabilities, the civic body had identified more than 30,000 persons and distributed Rs 1,000 monetary assistance to around 20,500 persons.

™Works are underway to identify around 16,000 persons to distribute the funds. Also, those who did not receive the fund can contact the civic body. Field officials have been asked to identify persons with palpable disabilities across the city,∫ an official said.

The doctors at the urban primary health centres would provide temporary identity cards and medical certificates to PwD, who do not have national identity cards. ™They can avail the money by getting temporary documents. To create awareness among the residents, our field-level officials would spread the information when conducting door-to-door surveys,∫ the official added.

Tamilnadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) had alleged that civic body had failed to distribute funds to several persons with disabilities following which the civic body held a meeting with the representatives of the association.
