As a thanksgiving gesture to the city, he has come up with a photobook called ‘Chennai to Madras’. The 480-page book will be released in two volumes on August 21.

“Like any other person, I was also sitting at home during the initial days of the lockdown. Later, I stepped out and realised that the city was calm and composed without people around. The beauty and uniqueness of each monument can be felt as you look at them. It radiates positivity to accept the change of quietness. I started taking pictures of the iconic monuments and infrastructure that defines Chennai. Every monument from different eras in the city has its history and identity resonating in it. Every achievement and struggle, ebb and flow of the city can be felt in every monument. I decided to make it as a photobook and that’s how the book Chennai to Madras was born. The purpose of this book is to take the readers through a visual journey of the magnanimity of Chennai that’s embedded with emotions. The book is a contribution to reflect its oneness and restore identity, remembrance, struggle and pain of previous adversities,” says Ramachandran.

The award-winning lensman reminisces that each day of the shoot was challenging. “Though I have been living in the city for many years, this particular shoot taught me many things about Chennai. I researched and gathered as much information as possible and have mentioned the same in the book,” he adds.
