Kundrathur panchayat planner in DVAC dock

After the seizure of unaccounted cash of Rs 1.99 lakh during a surprise search at Kundrathur panchayat union BDO office in the last week of July, DVAC has registered a corruption case against five persons including planning officer of the panchayat union.

The accused listed as suspects in the case are Vijay Narayan, planning officer; G Balakrishnan, office assistant; and three private persons, K John, P Gunasekharan and Vijayakumar.

The surprise raid was carried between 3 pm and 9 pm on July 23 and cash was seized from John, an outsider who was employed by the BDO at a salary of Rs 10,000 per month.

Initially, the raiding team seized Rs 1 lakh from him. He said he received it from Vijayakumar, who had applied for plan approval though latter’s assistant, Gunasekaran, as per instruction from planning officer Vijay Narayanan.

Another Rs 99,500 was also fished out of John’s pocket. He confessed that it was also collected on behalf of a planner from various people who applied for approval.

All the suspects were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act by the DVAC team after the money was seized from the outsider employed by the BDO. The DVAC had also cited two persons who had given the bribe to the planner as suspects in the case.
