18 more succumb to coronavirus, 15,127 active cases in Chennai
Chennai is again witnessing a mild increase in the number of COVID-19 cases with the city registering 0.6 growth rate. Earlier, the city had shown improvement by managing to record a negative growth rate.

According to the data released by the Greater Chennai Corporation, the overall average growth rate of new cases for the seven days till Monday was at 0.6 per cent. Among the 15 zones of the city, as many as five zones, including Anna Nagar, Ambattur and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar have registered a positive growth rate of new cases.
The latest reports said that around 18 people have died in Chennai in since Monday night.
The highest death toll was reported in Rajiv Gandhi Hospital where 8 patients died. Omanthoorar Govt Hospital, Stanley Hospital and Kilpauk Hospital reported the death of 3 patients each while a private hospital said one patient failed to respond to treatment.
The city reported a total of 87,235 positive cases, of which 70,651 patients have recovered and were sent home. As many as 15,127 cases are under treatment. Also, a grim total of 1,456 deaths have been reported in the city.
According to data released by the Greater Chennai Corporation, Kodambakkam zone has the most number of corona positive patients seeking treatment and Royapuram zone, which is worst-hit among the 15 zones, has a higher number of recovered persons than other zones.
In Royapuram, as many as 9,116 persons have recovered, which is an 89 per cent recovery rate.
