The incident happened on Saturday afternoon, when G Kumar, a realtor from Thoraipakkam went to visit his land at Sengadu village in his car with his friends. When they were there, a group of men surrounded the car and a fight broke out. When the rival gang pulled out a gun, Kumar tried to flee the spot in the vehicle. Three rounds were fired at the car, one of which penetrated the bonnet and another broke the window panel.

After preliminary inquiries, the police said that there is an ongoing dispute between Kumar and Lakshmipathy, father of the MLA, over a common pathway to reach Kumar’s land through Lakshmipathy’s property.

The pathway was dug up by unidentified persons to prevent vehicles from using it, but Kumar levelled the path again on Friday. He then lodged a complaint with the Tiruporur police seeking action against those responsible. The firing happened after he lodged a complaint.

However, when contacted, officials said that both parties suffered injuries in the clash but added that formal complaints were yet to be received.
