ADGP becomes senior most police officer to test positive
For the first time, an officer in the rank of Additional Director General of Police tested positive for COVID on Wednesday in the city, making him the senior-most police official to contract the virus in the State.
Chennai
ADGP Rajeev Kumar (civil defence training and home guards) was admitted to the Omandurar Government Hospital. However, the 51-year-old officer adopted for home quarantine later. His wife and son, too, have tested positive and the officer is suspected to have contracted the virus from them.
Meanwhile, about 18 RPF personnel, who recovered COVID, donated plasma for treatment of Corona-infected patients here on Wednesday. Plasma collected from the RPF constables was administered to patients at the Railway Hospital in Perambur.
A statement issued by Southern Railway (SR) headquarters confirmed the donation, said that the plasma received from the RPF personnel was administered to the patients who were suffering from moderate to severe symptoms.
Significantly, the statement claimed that the patients put through plasma therapy were recovering. Using plasma involves the transfer of antibodies from donors who have already mounted an immune response, thus offering immediate protection to the recipient. Hence, with an intention to serve the community at large, the RPF personnel donated blood at the railway hospital in Perambur for plasma therapy, the statement added.
