Man blames self for kin testing +ve, jumps to death

A 37-year-old man who had tested positive for coronavirus killed himself by jumping from the fifth floor of a hospital building on Monday night. Sources said that he was dejected after six of his family members also tested positive, thinking that they could have contracted the viral infection from him.

The deceased, Ganesh of Semmencherry, was a businessman. After suffering from fever for the past few days, Ganesh took a test for COVID-19, which turned out to be positive. Following this, his family members were quarantined in their home, said sources. 

On Monday, after his temperature shot up further, Ganesh was admitted to a private hospital near Kelambakkam. Ganesh was dejected, believing that the whole family was affected because of him. Around 9 pm, Ramesh jumped off the hospital building. 

The staff who saw his body on the floor rushed to his rescue, but he had died by then. Soon after being alerted about the incident, a team from the Kelambakkam police station arrived at the spot and retrieved the body and sent it to Chengalpattu government hospital.
