The victim, Farzana alias Priyanka (35) of PP Gardens in Aminjikarai, lodged a complaint on March 3 that a man identified as Mohammed Hussain cheated her of Rs 2.5 lakh, which he collected in multiple instalments, on the promise of marrying her.

Priyanka alleged that she had developed a relationship with Hussain of Puzhal six months ago.

Even though her complaint was received, it was said that the police neither investigated the case nor arrested the accused citing the COVID-19 related work. Upset over this, Priyanka gathered her friends and staged a protest in front of Aminjikarai police station demanding the arrest of the accused and recover her money.

On information, Anna Nagar Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) Swaminathan rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesters. The protesters dispersed after the police promised that the complaint would be taken up for investigation. When contacted, the Aminjikarai police said that an FIR has been registered on Priyanka’s complaint and added that the accused would be nabbed soon.
