“Of the cases reported every day in the Tondiarpet zone, only 10 per cent cases are reported from slum areas. The situation is better in Royapuram zone, where only 8 per cent cases are from the slums. We have been observing the improvement for the past one month,” Prakash said. He attributed the results to the community intervention programme conducted by the civic body in the slums and densely populated areas. There are as many as 1,979 slums in the city. “Also, we have increased the number of tests to over 10,000 for the past 15 days and we are aiming to further increase the tests to 12,000. We reached 35,000 tests per million population, which is the highest in the State,” he said.
