According to a Chennai Corporation statement, these 3,47,380 vulnerable persons are pregnant women, persons with comorbidities and elderly persons. “The civic body has deployed Anganwadi workers, Corporation nurses and others to monitor the health of the identified persons regularly,” the statement said.

Apart from this, the statement added, the civic body and Helpage India are contacting 100 senior citizens each in the city every day to get updates on their health condition and also to provide assistance. Doctors have been appointed to contact persons under home quarantine every day for 14 days.

Meanwhile, the civic body has decided to increase the number of fever camps in the city to 200 from the present 100 camps. Fever camps are being conducted in containment areas to identify persons with influenza-like-illness so that patients could be identified at the earliest.

“Chennai Corporation also has placed orders for 2 lakh Arsenic Album Homeopathy medicine and Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) tablets will be given to frontline workers as per the ICMR recommendation,” the release added.

A senior Chennai Corporation official said that the civic body has decided to take over buildings which are in violation of norms. “We have already identified four deviated buildings of private hospitals. We can at least add 120 beds in each of the four buildings,” he said.

He added that the civic body might require more space to treat patients, and the deviated buildings could add some space.
