Duo’s bid to escape after filling petrol in stolen vehicle foiled

Police arrested two men who escaped from a fuel filling station without making payment after filling the fuel tank of the car near Sriperumbudur on Monday. Later, during the inquiry, police came to know that car which the duo was using was stolen a few days ago near Guduvanchery.

The arrested duo was identified as Haan (30) from Maangadu and Abdullah (40) from Singaperumal Koil. Police said on Monday morning, both of them went to a fuel filling station in Sriperumbudur and asked to fill the tank for the vehicle. After filling the tank for Rs 1,800, the duo sped away before the staff could collect the money. The petrol bunk staff gave them a chase and informed the Sriperumbudur police station.

The police, on visiting the spot, browsed the CCTV footage and managed to trace the vehicle registration number and forwarded the vehicle details to the highway patrol. The police found the vehicle travelling towards Chennai on the GST Road. After a chase, the cops managed to intercept the vehicle and the two men, who tried to flee from the spot, was caught at gunpoint.

Both the accused were taken to the Sriperumbudur police station and during the inquiry, police found that the car which the duo was using was stolen from Guduvancehry a few days ago. They had filled fuel from several other bunks also in a similar manner and escaped without paying the money. The police arrested both of them and further investigation is on to find out whether they are linked to any robbery gang.
