“To oversee the coordination and relief work being undertaken by GCC and the Field Support Team in the respective zones of GCC, Tamil Nadu nominates five ministers for respective zones of GCC,” said Chief Secretary K Shanmugam, in a GO.

According to the GO, each minister had been assigned three zones of GCC each to monitor the work. Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar is in-charge of zones 3,4 and 5; Minister for Higher Education KP Anbalagan had been appointed in-charge for zones 13,14 and 15; Food Minister R Kamaraj for zones 8,9 and 10; Revenue and IT Minister R B Udhayakumar for zones 1,2 and 6 and Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar for zones 7,11 and 12.

Though the government has taken various steps to contain the spread of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases are steadily increasing as the State has been consistently registering more than 1,000 cases for the past few days.

Despite appointing Commissioner of Revenue Administration (CRA) J Radhakrishnan as the nodal officer for overseeing COVID-19 work and appointing Field Support Teams comprising senior IAS and IPS officers, the tally is yet to see a downward trend.
