J Radhakrishnan, special officer for COVID-19 control in Chennai, said that apart from taking police action against such positive persons, they would be taken forcibly to the institutional quarantine centres.

“We will monitor the behaviour of the patients in home isolation along with the local police. Also, violators will have to face legal actions,” Radhakrishnan warned.

The civic body also warned severe action against residents of containment zones if they venture out. On Wednesday, some residents of KK Nagar damaged the barricades after the locality was declared cluster containment zone.

“In Chennai, more than 9,000 persons have recovered from the disease. People should wear masks and follow social distancing norms to control the spread of COVID-19,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation Commissioner clarified that there is no need for any certificate for the recovered patients to resume work.

“We will take action against the organisations if they stop recovered persons from rejoining work,” he said.

Also, the Chennai Corporation is readying quarantine facilities for persons with disabilities. The civic body has identified around 20 areas in Tondiarpet and Royapuram zones to be converted into cluster containment zones.

A central team headed by IAS officer Rajendra Ratnoo visited the Ripon Building on Thursday and reviewed the measures taken by the civic body.
