Chennai Corporation to adopt large cluster control plan

After relaxing restrictions in over 1,000 containment zones in the city, the Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to implement ‘large cluster containment plan’ to prevent the spread of COVID-19 further.G Prakash, Chennai Corporation Commissioner, said that the process of identifying areas with a large number of cases has started across the city.

“Periphery of those clusters will be sealed and police personnel will be deployed to monitor the borders of the clusters. This will keep the virus within a particular area and it can be easily prevented from spreading to other areas,” he added.He inspected the COVID-19 control work in Tondiarpet zone, on Monday, and said that 40 to 45 per cent cases are from Tondiarpet and Royapuram zones.

“We are starting quarantine facility to house vulnerable people in the two zones,” he said. Meanwhile, the civic body has already started implementing the large cluster containment in division 173 in Adyar zone, and divisions 114 and 115 in Teynampet zone on a trial basis.

The Chennai Corporation has also requested the Greater Chennai Police to provide young police personnel to monitor the borders of the clusters strictly. ”Focussed intervention in the divisions will reduce the number of cases.
